This wonderful dress dates from the late 1930's, and combines the innocence of lace with the slinkiest bias cutting and a daring lowcut bodice and back. The top of the bodice is made from a gorgeous lace, trimmed with tiny seed pearls which also edge the neck. Over the breasts are v-shaped panels of satin, with the waistline seamed in a similar shape for extra definition.

The back dips into a very deep vee, again edged with tiny seed pearls, and is trimmed with a little swag of pearl edged lace at the base of the vee. The sleeves are cut very slim, with pointed cuffs that popper closed between thumb and fingers, and made from the same shimmering satin (which is actually white, not ivory as the photos show). The back shoulders of the dress are trimmed with long streamers of the lace, falling to the middle of the skirt. There are diagonally sewn bias cut ruffles at the skirt hem, echoing the deep fishtail styled shaping of the back of the skirt.

This dress is in superb condition, there is just a tiny area of snagging to the right side of the waist, which as you can tell from the photos is almost unseeable. When laid flat, it measures as follows:

  • Bust - 38"
  • Waist - 26"
  • Hips - 35"
  • Sleeve length - 23"
  • Cuff width - 3.5"
  • Upper arm width - 7"
  • Shoulder to waist length - 17"
  • Waist to hem length - 42"
  • Overall length - 59"
